AI is creating new risks to every person and entity faster than ever. The internet needs a large-scale verification mechanism if we can continue to use it with any form of integrity and confidence. At Verithene we are building the solution with the most important interest at heart: you.Providing safety, confidence and peace of mind to all internet users, Verithene is the next stage of security against AI threats. What do I need to be protected from?Have you ever posted a picture or video of yourself to the internet? Yes? Then you’re at risk of bad actors creating AI deepfakes of you doing and saying things you never did or said. The reality is that everyone that exists in the modern world has publicly available media of themselves online that is subject to be manipulated by people with bad intentions. And it’s becoming easier than ever to do this.Effects to your reputation, persona and likenessIn 2023 three different major court cases in North Carolina, Quebec and South Korea centred on different individuals who used AI to create child pornography. One of these individuals was a child psychologist that used the AI on pictures of real children he worked with. The same can be done to your childhood photos or photos of your children. An individual in Almendrajelo, Spain created pornographic images of local girls that they knew and uploaded them to pornographic sites. The mothers of these girls raised awareness on the issue but were unable to do anything about it.Westfield High School in New Jersey underwent investigation after pornographic deepfakes of students began circulating around the school. This risk already exists to every single person online. If a picture or video of yourself has ever publicly been posted to the internet, even if you didn’t post it yourself, you are at risk.Manipulation of your beliefsA multitude of actors, creators and influencers have undergone digital harm to both themselves and their audiences due to deepfakes.Whether you are an actor, creator or influencer yourself, or someone that watches and gets information from creators, you are at risk of having completely false information disseminated by individuals that stand to profit from deepfakes.A deepfake of Tom Hanks promoting a dental product was distributed in 2023, scamming members of the public that trust him into buying a false product he did not promote, and negatively affecting his personal brand through promotion of a low quality product.Gayle King, The "CBS Mornings" co-host was targeted by a deepfake scam that used her likeness to advertise a weight loss product.MrBeast, the popular YouTuber was impersonated in a deepfake scam ad that promised an iPhone giveaway. The video falsely claimed viewers could get an iPhone 15 Pro for a minimal cost, purportedly as part of the world's largest iPhone giveaway by MrBeast.Large scale damage to you through global companiesOn December 14, a deepfake of Elon Musk, (CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, X and X.ai) and Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys (a tech company worth $86.26 Billion), went viral. The deepfake solicited its viewers for an investment scam, promising viewers to make back money (that they would never receive), after investing in the scam.A separate video of Elon Musk deceiving viewers into a cryptocurrency scam also went viral.A group of hackers used deepfakes to scam a company out of $25m. They used deepfakes of top level executives inside the company to convince an employee that they had been authorised to send $25m to another company, when in fact he was sending this $25m to these hackers. How Verithene protects you from these risksDeepfakes are only going to get worse and more common. With Verithene you will be able to verify any image or video you post online through our verification process. The media is first verified using an AI facial recognition system that ensures what is being uploaded is a real likeness of yourself and not a deepfake, and then verified that it comes from a trusted device of yours. The media is then tokenised to show that it is you. All other media of yourself online that does not successfully go through this verification process will not be authorised online by Verithene. All media that you verify will exist on your own personal page, for you to make known to others what is real representation and what is fake.Any individual or corporate entity will be able to create a Verithene page for themselves. At a later stage, Verithene will then partner with large social media platforms (Instagram, Meta, Tiktok, X etc.) for them to use the media you have verified on our platform, cross-reference with existing pieces of media on their platforms that have not been verified by you on Verithene, and remove all this media and disallow the upload of non-verified media. This means the threat is then cut off from the source.
